Iced Tea for hot summer day’s

iced tea

Iced tea is a refreshing beverage that is the most popular in the heat of summer. Whether you want to substitute your hot tea for some cool iced tea, or have an iced tea party for your friends, iced tea is always a welcome treat. It does require some advanced preparation, so you’ll need to follow these steps to learn how to make your own refreshing iced tea.

There are a few ways to make iced tea.

First, you can brew hot tea per normal* and chill it in the refrigerator, or just cool it fast by pouring it into a glass over ice. You could also make sun tea by adding looseleaf tea to water in a glass jar, and setting it outside on a hot day; the heat of the sun will slowly brew the tea. Once it has steeped to your liking, strain out the tea. Finally, you could go for the cold-brew method: let it steep slowly in the fridge overnight. Sweeten with honey or maple syrup. Garnish your iced tea with a slice of lemon or sprig of mint for the perfect glass of cool, refreshing iced tea.

And there you have it. A nice refreshing glass of summer iced tea.

* Double the amount of loose tea used in a regular brew.

Iced Tea Syrups

It’s one of summer’s perennial questions: How do you get sugar to dissolve in a cold glass of tea? Stop stirring, and instead sweeten your tea with syrups infused with mint or lemon, flavoring your brew at the same time. For mint, you will need 1/2 cup packed fresh mint; for lemon, the zest and juice of 2 lemons. In a small sauce pan, combine mint leaves or lemon zest and juice with 1 cup sugar and 1 1/2 cups water; bring to a boil, let the sugar dissolve, and remove the pan from the heat. Let liquid cool; strain through a fine sieve. Use about 4 teaspoons of syrup per tall glass of tea. Syrups will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
